Tesla Semi Truck price ranges between $1,50,000-2,00,000
Tesla Semi truck was unveiled earlier this month but, the pricing was not touched upon at launch. Now Tesla’s website claims an estimated pricing of $1,50,000. This starting price is for the semi truck with a range of 300 miles on a full charge. Another version with 500 mile range will be available at $1,80,000. However, to be the first of 1,000 buyers you need to shell out $2,00,000 for a Founders Series model.
Tesla Semi Truck will be on road to compete with diesel trucks by 2019. Tesla’s pricing is in line with other standard trucks which also range between $1,00,000-$1,50,000.
Tesla claims, its Semi Truck will cost 20% lower to operate, thanks to low-cost charges at the network of ‘megachargers’ it will provide plus low maintenance cost. Its electric semi can save companies $200,000 or more per year in fuel costs over millions of miles, Tesla added.
“We really thought about this a lot. If you take everything into account: take the lease cost, take the insurance cost, maintenance, all of the factors – the fully accounted for true cost of trucking – a diesel truck will be 20% more expensive than a Tesla Semi per mile.” said Musk.
As an example – On a 100-mile round trip driving at an average speed of 60 mph towing 80,000 pounds, assuming diesel costs $2.50 per gallon and electricity is 7 cents per kWh, the Semi has an operating cost of $1.26 per mile compared to $1.51 for a diesel truck.
Tesla Semi Truck is powered by four electric motors, one at each wheel – the same volume production motors used in the company’s consumer mass market Model 3 sedan helping it to hit 60 mph in just 5 seconds when unloaded. All the motors work independently to control torque. “The truck will automatically stop jackknifing because it has independent motors on each wheel and it will dynamically adjust the torque on each wheel so that jackknifing is impossible. Your worse nightmare is gone with this truck”.The drive-train is also guaranteed for one million miles.
A $20,000 deposit is required to purchase one, which is up from the $5,000 announced when the sleek semi was revealed on Nov. 16th.
Tesla has not revealed as to how many orders it has bagged, but clients like Walmart and J.B. Hunt have already announced their plans to purchase.
