Auto Expo 2018: Menza Lucat Electric Motorcycle Launched
From concepts to production, electric vehicles are slowly becoming a realty. Menza Lucat Electric Motorcycle was launched with some high level of customizations at the Auto Expo 2018. To be more relevant Menza motors has started electrifying Indian highways to make electric bikes more practical. Menza is focused on creating an entire electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem rather than just selling a bike. The EV company has already set up several charging stations along the Delhi-Agra highway and plans to electrify nine other national highways as well.
Menza Lucat Electric Motorcycle is capable of 100 km inside city and 150 km on the highway on a single charge. The bike will be able to charge using any wall socket. Powering the Menza Lucat is a 18kW electric motor that puts out 24PS and generates 60 Nm. The motor runs on 72V Li-On batteries that is equipped with a smart battery management system.
“Our next target is to electrify the Guwahati-Shillong highway. But we’ll also have an average of two chargers per 10 sq km in every city where we launch our bikes,” the company’s 24-year-old CEO Rahul Gonsalves told BusinessLine.
In terms of pricing Menza Lucat Electric Motorcycle will be available with 112 customization options. Depending on the customizations chosen the cost may vary between ₹2.80 lakh and ₹3.35 lakh. The company is also giving an option to buy the bike without the battery and lease it instead. In that case, the bike will cost ₹1.77 lakh along with a ₹3,800 rental charge for the battery. The battery lease program will be introduced in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Pune, Lucknow, Bhopal, Amritsar, Nagpur, Chandigarh and Nainital where the Menza Lucat electric motorcycle will go on sale first. Menza has opened bookings for a token amount of Rs 10,000. Interested customers can book online on PayTM mall and also on the company’s mobile app.
“Lucat is the first factory-customised motorcycle, which is built as per the rider’s requirements and riding style. We have 112 customisation options for our customers,” Gonsalves said.
Menza motor plans to launch three more models in the next one year. However, deliveries for its first bike Lucat will begin in August this year.
